Registering Houses on Slack

Once you’ve added the House Cup bot to your workspace, you may want to register houses. Houses aren’t necessary to use the bot, but are a great way to add some optional friendly competition.

  • To register a house you first need to create groups. We use Hogwarts houses as an example, but your houses can be named whatever you’d like! Create groups in your Slack workspace settings by clicking the name of your Slack workspace and clicking “Administration.”
  • Under “Administration”, click “Customize.”
  • Within your workspace settings, click “People & user groups.”
  • Click “New user group.”
  • Name your group and add a handle.
  • Optionally add users to your group manually or automatically sort them in the onboarding section of the House Cup dashboard at a later time.
  • Once you’ve created your groups, you can now register them as groups in two methods:
  • Use the command @housecup register house @house-name to register your house with the bot.
  • Navigate to “Groups” in the house cup dashboard and select the house you’d like to register as a house.
  • In group settings enable “Is house.”
  • Save your changes.

*Note one: You must have a Slack Pro plan in order to create groups within your Slack workspace.*

*Note two: Once you’ve registered all of your houses, sync your server by clicking the “Sync server” button in the dashboard navigation in order to have these changes quickly recognized in the bot!*
